The KDS-191 Sensor measures the tide in a stilling well environment. The shaft encoder method of level sensing in stilling wells is a time tested technique and provides accuracy with simplicity. The sensor has a long history of deployment. The system is simple to install and operate and it provides a very direct measurement of the water level. The stilling well is not left completely open, but there is a small vent near the bottom of the well. This method mechanically filters the water entering the well with high frequency variability. The sensor is designed for continuous indoor use in a stilling well and the encoder is installed in a covered enclosure overlooking the stilling well. The system is used for hydrological measurements in rivers, dams, artificial lakes, and other water bodies.
