The KDS-072 rain sensor sports IS compliant mechanics that meet IMD guidelines. Rain enters the collector funnel, passes through a debris-filtering screen, and collects in one chamber of the precision tipping bucket mechanism.
The tipping bucket mechanism is a precision balance with water collecting arms on either side, one of which is positioned at any point of time below the rain collection funnel. When pre-calibrated amount of water (representing rain of 0.5, 0.2 or 0.1mm) collects in one side of the bucket it tips over, bringing the other half (bucket) under the funnel and generating an electrical pulse by way of magnetic reed switch closure.
